Why does menopause cause changes in vaginal health?

Most of the symptoms of menopause are brought on by falling levels of estrogen. In terms of vaginal health, these lowered hormone levels can cause vaginal dryness, a condition that is uncomfortable and can get in the way of a healthy and active sex life. Vaginal dryness creates an environment that lacks the moisture levels needed for adequate lubrication. MonaLisa Touch is an in-office laser treatment that can improve vaginal health. The treatment uses a thoughtfully designed probe to direct concentrated beams of light into your vaginal walls. That light is converted into gentle heat. Your body responds to that heat by creating new collagen in your vaginal tissue. The new collagen cells stack neatly atop one another to thicken your vaginal walls and improve vaginal moisture. Some women report immediate improvement in the days following their treatments. However, it can take a couple of months to see the full effects because your body needs time to manufacture the new collagen cells.
The MonaLisa Touch treatment uses patented technology to assess and control the level of heat in targeted tissues. This prevents heat-related damage while stimulating new cell growth. The treatments are brief, and you’ll likely be in and out of the treatment room in around 30 minutes. You might feel a gentle warming sensation during treatments, but there’s no significant discomfort. MonaLisa Touch does not require an anesthetic or advance preparation. There’s also no extensive downtime needed after your treatment. Refrain from sex for a few days to give your tissues a chance to heal, but there’s no other change needed in your daily routines.
